The Dallas
Hispanic Bar Association Scholarship Foundation is the beneficiary
of all funds raised at the DHBA’s Annual Event. The DHBA Scholarship Foundation’s
goal is to increase diversity within the legal community by
providing financial support to worthy students. The DHBA Scholarship
Foundation provides scholarships to DISD Law Magnet High School
students so that they can attend the Close-Up Program in Washington,
DC and to students who are enrolled in Texas law schools.

Law School Scholarship:
The DHBA Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce that
it will award
law school scholarships to deserving students who are enrolled
in a Texas
law school during the 2010-2011 school year. The scholarships
will be
awarded to students who have high academic performance and
demonstrated
leadership.
Applications will be considered as they are
received beginning on April 15,
2010. Applicants will receive priority consideration if their
applications
are submitted by April 15, 2010. The last day to submit an
application is
June 15, 2010 (postmark date).

Adelfa Callejo Spirit of Justice Scholarship
Recipient
Victoria Branson is third year law student at Texas
Wesleyan University Law School and a member of the Texas Wesleyan
law review. She received her
Bachelor's of Business Administration cum laude from Texas
Christian
University. Ms. Branson is originally from Houston, Texas..
After
completing her first year of law school, she worked for SafeHaven
of Tarrant
County and she volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Tarrant County.
Last summer, she interned for an entertainment and intellectual
property
attorney in Dallas.
Cesar Chavez Memorial Scholarship Recipient
Catherine
Butel-Ortega is a second year law student at the South Texas
School of law. She received her Bachelor's of Arts with honors
from the
University of Kansas. Ms. Butel-Ortega is originally from San
Antonio
Texas. Prior to entering law school, she worked for the State
of Kansas
Department of Social Rehabilitation Services. Last summer,
she worked with
the Rio Grande Legal Aid's Access to Justice.
Dan Benavides Memorial Scholarship Recipient
Octavio
Arturo Dominguez is second year law student at the SMU Dedman
School of Law. He received his Bachelor's of Arts from Princeton
University. Mr.
Dominguez is originally from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico where he
lived until he
was 9 years old before moving to El Paso, Texas. Prior to entering
law
school, Mr. Dominguez worked for LULAC National Educational
Services
Centers. Last summer, he worked with the Texas Civil Rights
Project and
interned for Judge Gena Slaughter of the 191st Dallas County
District Court.
Irma Rangel Memorial Scholarship Recipient
Jessica
Trevizo is a second year law student at SMU Dedman School of
Law. She received her Bachelor's of Arts summa cum laude from
Texas Christian
University. She is originally from Fort Worth, Texas. Last
summer, she
interned for Catholic Charities Immigration and Legal Services
and also
interned for Judge Eric Moye of the 14th Dallas County Judicial
Court.
President's Ex Licentia Regia Scholarship
Recipient
Jiroko Lopez is a third year law student
at the SMU Dedman School of Law. She received
her Jiroko Lopez is a third year law student at the SMU Dedman
School of Law. She received her Bachelor's of Arts magna cum
laude from
SMU. She is originally from Dallas, Texas. Ms. Lopez has volunteered
with
Mosaic Family Services and Catholic Charities where she translates
legal
documents for immigrant victims of family violence. Last year,
she interned
for Judge Martin Hoffman of the 68th Dallas County District
Court. Last
summer, she interned at the Executive Office for Immigration
Review and was
a visiting scholar for the World Bank. Ms. Lopez is a past
recipient of the
DHBA Platinum Sponsor Scholarship.
Texas Appleseed Scholarship
Arlette Hinojosa is in her third year at the University of
Texas at Dallas.
DHBA Scholarship Foundation and Texas Appleseed provided Ms.
Hinojosa with a
full scholarship that covered her Kaplan LSAT prep course expenses
in the
summer of 2009. She plans to attend law school after completing
her degree
in criminology with a minor in sociology.
Law Magnet Close-Up Program
The DHBA Scholarship Foundation contributed $5,000.00 to the
Friends of the
Dallas Law Magnet High School to support students who will
attend the
Close-Up Foundation's Program in Washington, D.C.
Eastfield College Pleasant Grove Campus Scholarship
The DHBA Scholarship Foundation contributed $500.00 to Arnulfo
Orihuela to
assist with his tuition expenses during his first semester
at Eastfield
College Pleasant
The DHBA Scholarship
